Ray Travers

Greetings comrades! I have been involved in camps for almost 10 years now. Over this time, it has become more difficult to spend a full week on camp. But I still try to be involved by helping out whenever I can, whether it is on leaders day, during the week or on Friday night. Why am I am still involved? Because I believe that the kids that come on camp and their familles deserve a holiday, that those kids can come into contact with great role models, that camps is also thriving wide community of young adults doing good work. Essentially, I think the Board’s role is threefold; to ensure that camps remain true to its mission, to provide guidance to the staff as to what the volunteers are thinking and want done and to assist the staff in making camps better. This is what I want I want to focus on over the next year while I am on the Board. But of course, any volunteer movement is based on volunteers. So, what do you want done? What can you do? Let the Board know.

Br Bernie Gartland

I am a teacher by profession having taught in Christian Brother Schools at Lewisham, Wollongong, St Mary’s Cathedral and Canberra. During the past five and half years I’ve had the chance to get to know some wonderful people through Edmund Rice Camps here in NSW. The work of good and generous people carries on the work of God and the special charism of Blessed Edmund Rice where youngster have a chance to have fun, to work together with and to enjoy a holiday within a stable and caring environment. It has been my role to be the link with previous Province Leadership Team and the staff of Camps, Danny Croucher, Steven Cooper, previously Simon Ghantous and currently while Steve’s away, Sam Belo. I’ve enjoyed my time with volunteers and the youngsters and know it is a great honour to be with many young people who are doing their best to bring happiness to the lives of others. There are joys in the driving of buses to Walgett and Bowraville and to be of assistance wherever possible.

Daniel Fields

I have been involved with camps for a number of years now and have really enjoyed contributing to our thriving community. There are many ways that we can contribute to camps and I have found that being apart of the Advisory Board has afforded me the opportunity to explore and discuss ideas and work with people who all have the same vision in mind. The passion and commitment I have for the movement is shared amongst all volunteers within the movement. What we do, how we do it and why we do it is therefore at the centre of everything the movement does. Together we do this extremely welll.

Luisa Mastrangelo

I have been involved with camps for over six years, and for the last year I have been a member of the Advisory Board. Being a part of the Advisory Board has allowed me to continue being an active member of the Edmund Rice community, as I am no longer able to commit to a weeklong camp due to work commitments. ERC is an important part of my life; the experiences, memories and friendships will stay with me for a lifetime and I will forever be grateful. This is my way of giving back to a community that has given me so much.
